Why We Love HydraFacial – Especially Now

Why We Love HydraFacial

Are you tired of covering brown spots? Trying to hide wrinkles under layers of make-up? Summer is here and you cannot hide skin imperfections. Your complexion needs to be at its best. Our recommendation for glowing and radiant summer skin is HydraFacial. It is not only a great skincare solution – it is super safe.

Is this treatment right for you? Learn more about this revolutionary skincare treatment below. If it sounds like a good fit, contact us at 609-732-2244 to schedule a HydraFacial.

HydraFacial Basics- What Can It Do

Are you hoping for a skincare miracle? Do you want beautiful, flawless skin quickly? Many people do. The HydraFacial is not a miracle treatment but comes pretty close. It provides quick results and continued improvement in skin quality and appearance if you continue treatment.

Benefits of HydraFacial Treatment

We love that HydraFacial offers quick results in a single treatment. And for patients wanting a lasting skincare solution, HydraFacial delivers that too. It is a one-size-fits-all skin enhancing solution. Here are some of its benefits:

  • Address common skin concerns including enlarged pores, oily skin, discoloration, wrinkles and fine lines, aging, sun damage, blemishes and blackheads and poor skin texture
  • Better skin appearance in a single treatment
  • Quick, in-office procedure
  • Immediately return to work and other activities
  • Makeup can be re-applied before leaving the MedSpa
  • Continued improvement in skin quality with regular treatments
  • Customized to each patient’s specific skin concerns
  • Ideal for all skin types

HydraFacial vs. Traditional Facial

The HydraFacial is a four-part skincare solution. During your treatment, the treatment will cleanse, peel, extract and hydrate the skin. It is like having multiple services that provide everything you need for radiant, glowing skin. Specialized serums further enhance results by giving your skin peptides, hyaluronic acid and antioxidants – essential building blocks of healthy skin.

Traditional facials work well. Traditional facials provide essential maintenance for the skin, helping it to look better and brighter with regular visits. A HydraFacial tends to offer deeper, more noticeable results than a simple facial, especially after the first treatment. If you need results now, the HydraFacial is our go-to pick.

Our patients choose this unique facial option before big events, like a special vacation or wedding. Many love their results so much that they continue to receive HydraFacial treatments, with their skin getting better and better after each visit.

Discover Your Best Summer Skin NOW

The Stay-At-Home orders are being lifted and we are coming out of sheltering in. As you start to “see” people again, you do not have time to worry about skin imperfections. The HydraFacial will help you tackle dull, dry skin and blemishes so your skin can shine, with or without makeup all season long.

And, it is a SAFE option. The machine is self-cleaning, and the tips are disposed of and recycled. So, you are never touched by anything that has been touched by someone else! It is the perfect time to try this skin enhancing option. Call to schedule your HydraFacial treatment at Jersey Shore Aesthetics and Wellness today.

Support Your Immune System with Vitamin C

Support Your Immune System with Vitamin C

Let’s look at what you can do to support your immune system during the coronavirus outbreak. COVID-19, or the coronavirus as it is often referred to, has taken over the headlines in news, sports, entertainment and everywhere else. It is a new strain of the coronavirus family that started in China and has spread throughout the world. Because it is a new strain, we do not have a vaccine or specific medications to treat it. Therefore, it is imperative that we try to prevent contracting the virus to keep ourselves safe.

What can you do?

The government has instituted several measures, such as travel bans and banning large gatherings of people, to help with that. They also recommend common sense measures that help protect against all viruses and bacteria, things like hand washing and cleaning commonly used surfaces. However, you can also help fortify your body by boosting your immune system to help fight off the virus if exposed. Eating a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and getting eight hours of sleep every night helps with that. There are also a number of nutritional supplements that can help boost the immune system. There is one that is safe, inexpensive, easy to get and very effective when it comes to helping the immune system fight off infection – Vitamin C.

Vitamin C Helps Support Your Immune System

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin that the body utilizes in collagen synthesis, protein metabolism and wound healing. It also serves as a very potent antioxidant, which is how it helps boost the immune system.

Vitamin C has been used for over 75 years to treat various diseases and illnesses. One of the most common uses is to prevent or treat viral infections, such as the common cold. Studies have shown that Vitamin C doses in the 2 grams/day range can help decrease the severity and duration of symptoms of, and possibly prevent, the common cold. In addition, there are current ongoing studies looking at higher dose Vitamin C (6g-24g) in the prevention and treatment of COVID-19.

Vitamin C is a safe, well known antioxidant that can help boost the immune system to fight off viral infections as we face the growing uncertainty of COVID-19 and the continued threat of the common cold and flu. Daily supplementation of at least 2 grams can help maintain the immune system at its current levels. Higher doses in the range of 10-15g can also help increase the effectiveness of the immune system, but need to be done through IV infusion to avoid the common side effects of higher doses of oral Vitamin C, such as upset stomach and diarrhea.

IV Infusion Therapy Immune Support

A regimen consisting of an IV infusion of 10g of Vitamin C to help kickstart the immune system followed by daily oral supplementation of 2g in the morning and 2g at night can serve as a prophylactic treatment to help prevent infection from any viral illnesses.

20% Off for All First Responders & Healthcare Workers!

If symptoms of an illness such as a sore throat or runny nose do begin, adding a few 1g doses every few hours during the day may help reduce the severity and duration of the illness. If upset stomach or diarrhea occur, decrease the dose and frequency of the oral Vitamin C. As always, consult with your physician to make sure the Vitamin C will not interfere with any other medications or treatments you are undergoing.

Will Proper Hydration Help Me Feel Better During Cold and Flu Season?

Will Proper Hydration Help Me Feel Better

Hydration is common advice when you get sick with the cold or the flu – drink lots of fluids. Depending on who is giving you advise, keeping up a steady intake of water, tea, or the occasional Pedialyte will help you recover faster and ease your symptoms. But at some point—perhaps after your fourth trip to the bathroom—you’ve probably wondered: Is drinking all this fluid actually helping?

The short answer is yes! There are several contributing factors that cause you to lose fluids when you’re sick. High fever, vomiting or diarrhea or just loss of appetite can lead to dehydration.

If you’re fighting a cold or you’re in the throes of flu-like symptoms, fighting off dehydration can be difficult. You might want to supplement your water intake with an electrolyte solution such as Pedialyte. For a run-of-the-mill cold, you’ve probably been told to ramp up you’re Vitamin C intake but be careful to avoid sugary juice beverages.

Although orange juice has vitamin C and potassium that can help your immune system, it’s also loaded with sugar, which has inflammatory properties. Instead, it is recommended that you drink plain water with a squeeze of fresh lemon or orange juice from a wedge to get a splash of vitamin C and more flavor.

Another reason people can get dehydrated during cold and flu season is because these illnesses tend to happen in the winter when the air is drier. This is especially true when you’re indoors and the heat is turned on. This doesn’t necessarily lead to total dehydration in your body, but it can lead to dryness in your nose, eyes and mouth.

These areas of the body – the nose, eyes and mouth- are called mucosal surfaces of the body and need to be rich in fluids and moist to have optimal operation. Hydrating helps to maintain efficient operation and helps to protect you from getting ill.

How Much Should I Drink If I’m Getting Sick?

There’s no one-size-fits-all recommendation for how much you should drink if you think you’re getting sick. You should still aim to drink about eight glasses of water per day—roughly 64 ounces—but recent studies have called that target into question, suggesting that it depends on how active you are, what climate you live in and if you suffer from illnesses where your body doesn’t process water appropriately. When in doubt, use your common sense. Are you thirsty? Is your urine a darker shade of pale or light yellow? Then you should probably have some water.

What Are the Early Signs of Dehydration?

Early signs of dehydration include increased thirst, feeling weak, not urinating a normal amount and fatigue. More severe symptoms might include confusion, lightheadedness, dizziness and rapid heart rate. If you fear you may have serious dehydration, you should seek medical attention immediately.

Can IV Hydration Therapy Help Me with Dehydration and My Symptoms?

You don’t need to suffer unnecessarily with fever, aches and pain. Through IV Hydration Therapy we can offer immediate rehydration, help to replenish vital nutrients, include an anti-inflammatory for the pain and even include some secret weapons to boost your immune system.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant that helps to fight infection. However, dosing too high via Vitamin C supplements can cause stomach upset and even diarrhea. You can avoid these issues because IV Hydration Therapy completely bypasses the stomach. Making it an effective treatment for colds and flu.

Don’t Let Cold or Flu Season Slow You Down. Stay Hydrated!

When you receive IV Hydration Therapy, the solution rehydrates and replaces fluids lost to help you feel better fast. Don’t let cold and flus season slow you down. If your symptoms are early and you’d like to boost your immune system quickly, schedule an IV Hydration Therapy Drip. Life is too short to spend it feeling sick!

Laser Hair Removal: Winter Months are the Best Time

Laser Hair Removal

Let’s talk about laser hair removal. Winter Months are actually the best time for laser hair removal. Yes, humans are mammals and mammals are meant to have hair on their bodies. But the only place we really want to have luxurious locks is on our heads.

During the cold winter months, you may not be thinking about the need for hair removal. But given the fact that it takes more than one session over a period of several weeks for laser hair removal to be completed this is the perfect time to start scheduling appointments.

Since the mid-1990’s the process for hair removal has evolved dramatically. Initially, you used to have to let hair grow in order to have it removed. That process was ok for leg hairs but could be embarrassing for those with unwanted facial hair. Today hair can be shaved prior to an appointment for hair removal.

You might wonder how laser hair removal works on clean shaven skin?

The magic word in laser hair removal is “melanin” which is the brown to black pigment in our skin, hair and eyes. During hair removal, a concentrated beam of light (the laser) is directed to the area of unwanted hair. This light absorbs the melanin in the hair shafts and is converted to heat. The heat travels down the shaft of your hair and damages the follicle that produces the hair. If hair has stubble above the skin, there is risk to burning the skin surrounding the pigmented hair.

Since melanin is needed for laser hair removal, this only works on dark hair – blond, red, white and gray hairs don’t have the melanin needed. In addition, when skin is lighter, the contrast between the skin and the hair pigment is greatest, so laser hair removal works best on lighter skinned people with darker hair.

Scheduling laser removal when skin is not tanned is best because the goal is to have the energy from the laser work on the hair, not the skin. Thus, winter months when you get less sun are a great time for this procedure.

Does the treatment remove hair permanently?

Laser treatment can either permanently reduce the density of the hair or permanently remove unwanted hair. Permanent reduction in hair density means some hairs will regrow after a single course of therapy and patients will need ongoing laser treatment.

Permanent hair removal means none of the hairs in the treated area will regrow after a single course of therapy and no ongoing laser therapy is needed.

Whether hair is removed permanently or just reduced in density is influenced by:

  • the color and thickness of the hairs being treated
  • the color of the patient’s skin
  • the type and quality of the laser used, and
  • the competence and training of the person operating the laser.
  • However, if you have grey hairs, which have no melanin pigmentation, currently available lasers don’t work.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments you’ll need depends on your skin type. This classifies your skin by color, its sun sensitivity and its likelihood to tan.

Pale or white skin, burns easily, rarely tans. People with dark hair can usually achieve permanent hair removal with 4-6 treatments every 4-6 weeks. People with fair hair will generally only achieve permanent hair reduction and after an initial course of treatment may need 6-12 treatments a month apart.

Laser hair removal is actually a permanent “reduction” in hair. In reality, some hairs may continue to grow after several necessary treatments. This has to do with the growth cycle of our hairs. Hair goes thru three stages of hair growth- anagen, catagen and telogen. Anagen is the active growth phase for hair, and the only phase where laser hair removal is effective. Hair does not grow at the same rate- while some hairs are in anagen, others are in catagen (the shedding phase) or telogen (the dormant phase). Only 20% of our hairs are in anagen at a time and can be affected by the laser. Repeat treatments can be done when new hair growth is seen – usually 4-8 weeks after the prior treatment.

How can I prepare for my appointment?

First, do not pluck hair in the area you would like treated – you need hair in the shaft for laser hair removal to work. Shaving prior to your visit is fine – you can even shave minutes before your visit! Second, do not come in when skin is burned or tan, or after using a self-tanning product. The contrast of light skin and dark hair will make your treatment most effective. Lastly, make sure you discuss medications and medical history with your doctor- especially blood thinning medications and history of cold sores. There may be medications you need to take or stop before your procedure.

Cold Weather Wellness Tips

Cold Weather Wellness Tips

Winter is on its way, but that doesn’t mean your outdoor exercise routine has to end! Many of us question how to adjust our workout once the temperature drops, but we’ve got answers to keep you happy, healthy and warm while you break a sweat during the winter months. These Cold Weather Wellness Tips will keep you in tip-top shape as you brave the chill, whether you’re an avid runner going the distance, a seasoned athlete training to crush the competition, or anything in between. Let’s get started!

Weather Check: While exercising in the cold is generally safe, there are some conditions where caution is required. Temperatures below 0 Degrees Fahrenheit or wind chills below negative 18 Degrees Fahrenheit significantly increase the risk of frostbite on exposed skin. In fact, it can develop in as little as 30 minutes.

Layering Up: The first layer of clothing closest to your skin should be a synthetic material. This allows for moisture to be wicked away as you break a sweat and feel the burn! A couple extra layers on top will keep warm air insulating your body just enough to keep the chill at bay, and are easily removable if you start to feel the heat.

Don’t Forget Hands and Feet: The same layers mentioned above also pertain to your hands and feet. A thin, moisture wicking layer covered by a thicker, warmer material will help keep them warm and safe. And listen to your mother, don’t forget a hat!

Your Warm-Up Routine: Cold temperatures cause vasoconstriction and less blood flow to the muscles in our extremities. A proper warm-up routine, including walking or light calisthenics (jumping jacks, air squats, etc.), helps get the blood flowing back to your muscles. This increases flexibility and pliability and decreases the risk of injury when exercising in chilly conditions.

Hydration Station: Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean we don’t sweat! We just don’t feel it as much because sweat evaporates quickly in colder temperatures. In addition, moisture is lost as our bodies work to warm the cold and dry air that gets breathed in. Rule of thumb – hydrate in the chill of winter just as you would in the heat of summer!

Reap the Benefits: Cold weather increases our metabolism to help retain warmth, which can burn extra calories during physical activity! In addition, exercising in the cold increases the release of endorphins. Pair this will a little fresh air and sunshine, and you are on your way to feeling happier and healthier this winter.

We hope these Cold Weather Wellness Tips prepare you get outside this winter and stay active! Have questions? Chat with us on Facebook, Twitter, or give us a call at 609-904-2565.
